Basiq Air - Has a home base in Holland and flies to 20 cities, give or take. Flights from Amsterdam run anywhere between 30-60 EUR (37-74 USD).

BMI Baby Airlines - Offers routes across Europe.

Simple Jet - A very large amount of routes across Europe. However, there is an extra burden if you book with a credit card, and there are no refunds, unless there are extenuating circumstances (i.e. death of a family member).

Germania Express - Discount flights between Spain, Italy, Germany and Greece.

Sky Europe - Apparently the cardinal deduct airline in middle Europe.

Snowflake - Caters for the Mediterranean from Europe.

Continent Express - Taxes and fees at this locale are incomparably higher than the authentic fares.

Volare Airlines - An Italian based airline.

Wizz Air - A new airline, but quite prolific with it's customers. Travels between Warsaw and Athens.

Finding cheap airfares within Europe doesn't have to be an uphill battle. As long as you're armed with the correct facts and appropriate resources, you're on your way to finding that cheap airfare!

To find cheap airfare, you need to do a little research. Start with the well-known sites, like Expedia, Travelocity, Cheap Tickets, Hotwire or Priceline. The travel agencies just can't compete with the discount sites any longer. You can also find cheap airfare by using the search engines. Type in something like "cheap plane tickets" and the destination.

I just checked fares from Tucson, Arizona to Traverse City, Michigan on the five sites mentioned above. Tickets ranged from 704 to 432 for the cheapest at each site (and up to 500 more for the most expensive). It isn't important which was cheapest (oh, okay, it was Expedia). It isn't important because you never know from day to day which sites will find the cheapest flights. It changes all the time

When you search, always check at least three places. It would mean a savings of 272 in the above example. Flight durations were within minutes of each other, by the way, and the food is probably equally bad on all the flights.

Find Cheap Airfare With Flexibility

Sometimes it's cheaper to buy two tickets. The lowest rate from Grand Rapids, Michigan to Tucson, Arizona is 451 roundtrip as I write this. Las Vegas to Tucson is 161, however, and there are 199 specials to Vegas from Grand Rapids. Is saving 91 worth booking two flights? Your call (It saved us over 1000 when we went to South America). Careful on the timing, though. You probably won't get a refund if you miss the connection.

More flexibility is the way to find cheap airfare. Check different departure and return dates. Click on "2 or more connecting flights," and mark "anytime" for departure. Even if you don't want to leave at midnight, the savings might change your mind, so try all the options. When the savings aren't enough, you can always book first class, direct flights, or whatever you prefer.

Purchasing ahead of time gets you cheaper airfare. Less than a week away tends to be expensive, although you never can tell in the mysterious realm of airfare pricing. At times the "last minute specials" are the best thing going.

Place a bid to find cheap airfare. Priceline still has a "Name Your Own Price" feature. You make your bid, and the airlines say yes or no, according to whether they have empty seats to fill. The way to use this is to first search for the cheapest tickets you can find online, then go and bid lower than that. If the bid is rejected, return to the website where you found the best deal and book it.

Package deals, where you pay for plane tickets and your hotel room, can sometimes save you money. Personally, I haven't had much luck with these, but it can't hurt to look at them.

I once took a bus from Michigan to Miami, and flew from there to Ecuador. At the time saving hundreds of dollars was worth 38 hours on a bus. Usually this won't save you much on domestic flights. For example, at the moment, taking a bus from Traverse City to Detroit, then flying to Los Angeles, would only save about 70 (allowing for cab fare to the airport) compared with flying directly.

Other options are beyond the scope of this article. For example, courier flights can be a great deal if you don't mind letting a company use your baggage allowance (you get carry-on only). Then there are the stand-by deals, last minute deals and other ways to find cheap airfare.

San Diego, like any touristy type city has their share of great deals at great prices. If you're looking to visit San Diego in the high season, which is summer when most kids are out of school, expect to pay higher rates. Here also, it pays to plan ahead. Check the timing of your trip or vacation and don't arrive when there's major events such as a convention in town. You may want to check the visitors bureau for a list of what's happening in town on the dates you plan to visit.

The secret to lower hotel costs even in high season is your membership in other groups. The automobile club, American Association of Retired Persons, or even your employer may have discounted rates established at many of San Diego's nicest resorts. Another way to save is by booking a longer stay. San Diego is a beautiful place to base the rest of your vacation. Disneyland is a couple of hours away, as is Six Flags Magic Mountain, Universal Studios, Knotts Berry Farm and Amusement Park and many other attractions.

Remember to always ask for available discounts when booking. Remember the occupancy need of hotels. Sometimes, hotels

will offer a discount especially if you have a close by competitors rate offer in hand. A quick call to several hotels in an area will provide ammunition to get the best deal from the reservation desk. Although many 4 and 5 star hotels will have higher rates, remember to look for discount packages and stay a while longer. After all, it is your vacation!

Imagine counting down the days towards a great trip-that took careful planning and saving-only to step off the plane and want to sleep for three days. 8. Expect the second day to be the most difficult. Remain on schedule at the time of your destination. Request a wake-up call, or set an alarm, for the morning and begin the second day.

9. Try a spa treatment for muscle fatigue and dehydrated skin.

10. If possible, try to spend an hour in sunlight and fresh air on the first day; this will help to reset your body's internal clock to local time.

If you plan to stay in one place for some time, you might consider opening an account for check cashing and other transactions at a U.S. bank that has an overseas affiliate. U.S. embassies and consulates cannot cash checks for you.
Before leaving on your trip, you may wish to check with your bank to see if the country or countries that you plan to visit have Automated Teller Machine (ATM) service. The bank should be able to tell you if you can use your ATM card during your trip abroad.
Let your credit/debit card company know that you will be using your card overseas. Otherwise, they may block access. Debit cards are preferred over credit cards due to the account limitations. Be aware that cards can be skimmed and identities stolen. Safeguard your plastic at all times.
Prepare for Emergency Funds
It is a good idea to keep the telephone number for your bank in the United States with you, in case you run out of cash and need to transfer money. In some countries, major banks and certain travel agencies can help arrange a transfer of funds from your account to a foreign bank. If you do not have a bank account from which you can obtain emergency funds, you should make arrangements in advance with a relative or friend to send you emergency funds should it become necessary. If you find yourself destitute, contact the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate for assistance in arranging a money wire transfer from a relative or friend in the United States.
Foreign Currency
Before departing, you may wish to purchase small amounts of foreign currency to use for buses, taxis, phones, or tips when you first arrive. Foreign exchange facilities at airports may be closed when your flight arrives. You can purchase foreign currency at some U.S. banks, at foreign exchange firms, at foreign exchange windows, or even at vending machines in many international airports in the United States. If you leave or enter the United States with more than 10,000 in monetary instruments of any kind, you must file a report, Customs Form 4790, with U.S. Customs at the time. Failure to comply can result in civil and criminal proceedings.

4. Select your 'return trip cab' with caution and always be aware of your surroundings

5. Invest in a body purse or use a money belt.

6. Do not flash cash, foreign or domestic. If you are not sure of the money exchange, it is OK to leave a little extra money on the table.

7. When meeting people during your travel, do not give out your hotel room number. Meet people in the lobby or have the Hotel operator connect them to your room.

8. If you decide to go out with a suitor that you meet while traveling, have him/her pick you up at your Hotel. Find your Bellman, and casually mention that you are going out with one of the locals and ask a question about where to go? (The Hotel does not want anything to happen to you, because then who would pay the bill?)

9. ALWAYS remember to BE SAFE in personal or sexual encounters. Don't get caught up in the moment! At least not in a foreign country.

11. Remember, if you are an American, you could be a target! OR, they may want to marry you so they can move to the US. (Note: In Egypt men are legally allowed to have three wives)

12. Wait until the last day before your departure before giving out your home address or telephone number. (You would not want this information forwarded to a professional thief while you are away on vacation)

13. Try not to break anyone's heart.
